NONPAREIL.
i Operations in 'this mine' for the past few days have been suspended in the low level owing to the presence of gas. In . the meantime, the drive towards the the Waitemata has been continued from the adit level to cut the leader worked in that claim, with profit formerly,, and which may be expected to be met with whenever the company are in a position to follow up the cross-cut to the west, that.,, portion of the ground being intact to the surface. The gas, however, is now gone and, the, drive, being cleared oat, the leader, or underlay of No. 2 reef, js about two feet thick, and will be drrtm upon north and south, and as soo^as convenient the winze already sunk will, be cleared for the purpose of stoping out. The back of thii reef will give upwards < of 100 feet, it lying comparatively flat.. This leader has been cut in a drive westwardly from the main level, about ' 50 feet in; and there is also another' reef of similar size intersected in a cross* cut to the east, which will give about the same amount of backs to work-out. The,future of this company depends greatly! upon the quality of, their reefs, and the manager, Mr Bates, will lose no time in submitting, parcels to the battery test.
