SYDNEY.
It was stated by Mr Burns in answer to a question put to him by Mr Hoskins in the Legislative Assembly yesterday, that the Government" had refused to sanction any deviation from the terms of the contract for the Pacific Mai! Service, and that in taking this course they were acting with the concurrence of the New Zealand Government. The Postmaster General also stated that in the event of the Vasco de Gama proceeding by any other than the direct route, mails would only be given to her as they would to any private vessels.
Mr Hall, manager for the Pacific Mail Company, has consented to convey the New Zealand exhibits for Philadelphia to San Francisco free of charge. «
