The long expected reef driven upon from the Central Italy shaft low level nas been struck. Last night the men engaged in driving came upon a good looking reef, 18 inches wide so far as they were able to expose it, but owing: to the gas making strong they were compelled for the present to leave it, and are now engaged in breaking out leaders in the adit level, and in a cross-cut near to the Waitemata boundary. When the leader below has had time to discharge the superabundant gas, operations will be resumed upon it.
