Government Notices "STAMP ACT, 1875." BILLS OF LADING AND KEOEIPTS' IN LIEU THEREOF. IT is hereby notified, that, after fciio lafc of January next, Iho use of Impressed Stamps On Bills of Lading is compulsory. Such documents must, after (hat date, be written upon paper previously impressed, at the Head Office, and cannot be stamped after 'the execution thereof. , . It is requested, therefore, that Merchant**, Shipping Agents, and others concerned, will, ■without delay, forward to this office such forms as they may require to be impressed, accompanied by the usual requisition and receipt of the Bank of New Zealand for the amount, less the authorised discount. .-. Information may bo obtained at any Stamp Office. f ■'".■''■■ The provisions of the Act bearing on this point are as .follow :-— " 47. Except where express provision is made to th« contrary, all duties are to bo denoted by impressed stamps only." "62. (1.) A Bill of Lading includes aL-o any receipt given in lieu thereof from the master, mate, owner, or agent of any vessvl, and is not to be stamped after the execution thereof. ' (2.) Every person who nmk'S or executes any Bill of Lading not duly stamped shall forfeit a sum not exceeding £50." SCHEDULE. TEANSFERS OF SHAKES. 7 T is hereby^ notified, that, after the Ist of JL January next, the use of Impressed Stamps upon T-raissfers of Shares is compulsory^ but transfers of shares may bo stamped at a Stannp Office by the Commissioner or *i Deputy Commissioner within one month after execution without a fine. ; Managers and Secretaries of Companies, Sharobrekcrs, and others interested, are recommended to forward, without delay, such forms of transfer as they may require to be impressed, accompanied by the usual requisition and receipt from the Bank of New Zealand for amount thereby less: the authorized discount. ■■..•• i ••,.; ■■'.••;• Information may be obtained at any Stamp Office. ; The provisions of the Act relating hereto are as follow:—: "47. No transfer of any share or shares of or in the stock or funds of any corporation, company, or society whatever in New Zealand shall be registered, recorded, or entered in the books of such corporation, company, or society, unless such transfer is duly stamped. " 103. No instrument of sale or transfer of any share cr shares shall be valid, either at law or in equity, unless the name of the pur- j chaser or transferee is inserted therein at the time of or before the execution of the instru-1 ment of sale or transfer ; and, if any person executes a f>ale»note, transfer,' contract-note, or other instrument of sale or transfer, in any manner, or for any purpose whatsoever, unless the name of the purcl)a?er is inserted therein at the time or before the execution thereof, he shall forfeit a sum of not It S3 th «n £20 or more than £100; and, if any such . instrument is eo made or signed, it shall bo wholly and absolutely void and inoperative, j and shall in no case be made available by the insertion of a name or any other particulars afterwards ; and tho' person selling or transferring such share shall not be divested of his interest therein, but shall remain liable theredn ns if he bad never sold or disposed of the same. And if such person is a licensed eharobroker, his license chall, on any conviction under <his section, hi absolutely forfeited, and he shall not thereafter be qualified toiHcb as a broker, or to hove a fresh license issued'to him. "104. No sharebroker, auctioneer, commission ogent, or any other person shall bs enlitled to any brokerage, commission, or any other frc or reward in respect of the sile or transfer of any such share, unless the instrumeut of sale or transfer is filled up witk nil necessary particulars to make it a com- ; plete instrument, and is duly stamped.
