POLITICAL GOSSIP.

Eutnors aro still rife and as regards candidates —real or reported —at the coming elections the cry is, " still, they come." In accordance with our intention, announced yesterday, of keeping our readers well posted in the political on dits of the day, we give such rumors as hare been heard by us. First and foremost, as regards this locality, we haTe heard it rumored that Mr Buckland will seek the suffrages of the Thames, as also will Mr O'Neill. We do not intend to make remarks in this place on these reports, contenting ourselves with giving the bare facts that such things are said, so refrain from commenting on what chances these candidates would hay rather what we suppose they would have if they turn hearsay into fact by coming forward in reality. We hear of three candidates for the Eden district, Mr A. K. Taylor, Mr James Dilworth and Mr Vice-Chancellor Carleton of New Zealand University and New Zealand Herald fame. " Others," we also hear, will appear in the list of competitors. For City East, Mr James McCosh Clark is" mentioned, as also Mr W. L. Bees, who is said by the Echo to have commenced a quiet canvas of the election of the distrct. Sir George Grey, who appears to be in universal demand, is spoken of as likely to be requisitioned to stand for several constituencies from the Thames downward, Eodney being the community last rumored as desirous of being represented by him. The prevailing idea seems to be that he has only to show himself to win, but if he does not care for this veni vidi vici affair over the Eodney electors and declines to stand, we have the>.riames of Mr John Shepherd, Mr H. Farnall and Mr Moat spoken of. Besides these it may be that Mr John Sheehan will see his way to represent Eodney once more, though there are some who impute to him the intention of standing for some district in Hawke*s Bay.
