A CORRECTION OF A CONTRADICTION.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)
Sir, —I see by your issue of November 2nd a contradiction of my letter in the morning paper of the same date by Mr Compton, denouncing it as a stretch of of imagination. Mr Compton in the school-room denied that there were any nests in the building at all when asked by Mr Allom, and yet in his contradiction asserts that the birds remain in undisturbed possession, thereby denying his own assertion. I myself am in possession of the facts of the case, and know the name of the boy who got the eggs by climbing upon the hat-pegs to reach the nests in the corner of the room. The eggs were afterwards broken in his j pocket, which were* afterwards shown to his schoolfellows, coupled with the name of Mr Compton, aider and abettor. Had this been more closely enquired into at the school it would have been discovered, although the voice _of the thief was the loudest in proclaiming that no such thing had occurred, and his schoolfellows were too honorable to deny his statement without being personally asked. Jloping that this \vill satisfy Mr Compton> I- remain, See.,. Charity. [We may inform "Charity" that Mr Compton had nothing whatever to do with the contradiction which appeared in yesterday's Star: it was done at the request of a member of the Parawai School •Committee.—Ed.]
