TAIRUA.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sik,—Seeing that Mr Gallagher has made a reasonable offer respecting the making of a track suitable for the conveyance of machinery from Rowley's, I beg to draw the attention of the Engineer to the fact that at a short distance from Rowley's, where the hopper is situated, a level was taken some five years ago by Mr Alexander Thorn, for a tramway. By taking this level thq big hill is avoided. The cost of .making this portion of the road * would not exceed fifteen pounds. I see by your contemporary's correspondent's report that t horsemen will be able to go through, as the track to the junction is nearly completed. "The fact is, the new road is all up hill; the foot travellers prefer the old track it not being so steep, likewise much shorter. Another importance is attached to this track, that about a quarter of a mile from Hopkin's store a track;leads to the Brothers, then from' there a track'leads to the Hercules, so by making the main track, branch roads could be made that would open up the whole of the Tairua Goldfield. . .-• : Pack Hobse. P.S. If our benevolent masters or their Government would study us over-worked moke's, by throwing a little grass seed along the track it would be an apt of charity. October 29th.
