CITY OF LONDON.
The opening of the intermediate level, being one of expgdiencyyhas been pushed ahead and as many men placed in the stopes as can bo well employed. The block is of limited extent, but has surpassed expectations, both in size and quality; it is the best that the company hare dealt with as yet, shoeing up remarkably well at the battery. Every effort will be made to take out this portion of the cross-lode before the water invades the floor, which will at the present rate of rising take three weeks to accomplish. Small portions of the same lode are standing on NO3. 2 and 3 levels. Should necessity arise, the manager, Mr Hicks, will drive for JNo. 2 reef (which yielded fully an ounce to the ton on the flooded level) from the upper workings, some 25 or 30 feet only being required to intersect it, and this supply will fully meet battery requirements for a long period, and the present intermediate level secured by filling it up with mullock, for which provision has been made.
