MR F. COCK'S NATIVE DIFFICULTY.

! (To the Editor-of the Evening Star.) Sir, —I see in your issue of the 16th, which has only now come into my hands, j a denial of a report furnished to you by me that Mr Frederick Cock, at a place here, called jOerangi was, on the 12th of the present month walking about with a revolver. Mr Cock calls the report "an entire fabrication" and "silly trash." Wow I should be sorry Co leave you under the charge of having published an unfounded report, or I certainly have no such opinion of Mr Frederick Uqik as would lead me to trouble myself about his denial. But this I repeat—and I dare a repetition of the denial—that on the morning in question a firearm Joaded with ball was discharged about 6.35 at Mr Cock's place. A messenger was sent by To Hira to a resident here sfating that he was afraid that Mr Frederick Gock would shoot some of them, and it was not seven o'clock when the messenger arrived, and he seated that Mr Frederick Cock was walking about with a revolver. Now, if Mr Cock is game to deny this, I'm on. By Te Hira's own authority a message was sent by telegraph the same day to Wellington. If there be anything silly land stupid, it is for a man to do that which is dangerous to himself and others, and then try to back out with a denial which is mean and untrue. I see that your correspondent here on the 21st falls into the mistake of stating that Mr Cock " did not carry about a pistol to shoot Te Hira." Nobody said he did. What wa> said, and what is repeated, is, that .Vir Frederick Cock, having a Native difficulty on his hands, did openly discharge and make a display of firearms.—l am, &c, A COEBESPOND^NT. Ohinemuri, October 22, 1875.. [Mr Cock's denial of "a correspondent's" assertion appeared on the 20th, not the 16th.—Ed.]
