Da-ekin for LICENSE to C.nstruct a Dam, and to occupy as a Site for such Dam three hundred feet by one hundred and fifty feet of land situated at Neves' Creek, Tairua. The proposed length of the said Dam is 20 feet. NOTICE is therefore given, that on thesecond day of November, 1875, a License may be granted to the said Francis Day Ma for the above-described Dam, unless valid objection be in the meantime made in writing and lodged at this office not less than Beven clear days before that date. THE Proprietor of Ellerslie Gardens announces that on the Prince of Wales' Birthday he will give Valuable Prizes for Athletic Competitions to come off in the Gardens on that day. - The principal prize will be THE BIRTHDAY CUP, VALUE £50. This will be competed for in three running handicaps of 100 yards, 300 yards, and 880 yards. For running first in any of the races 6 points will be allowed, for running second 4 points, and for running third 2 points. . The Competitor, scoring the. highest to'al.of points in the three races will receive the first priz*, £25 in money, and ja Valuable Silver Cup presented by Mr Joseph Ellis, Exchange Hotel, Queen street. A second aggregate prize of £8, and a third of £5 will blso be given. In addition to the aggregate prizes, first and second prizes of £3 and £1 respectively will be awarded at each distance.
