CITY OF YORK.
This company have for some time past been putting in a drive from the City of London workings on the 270 feet level with a.yiew to opening out their property and connect with shaft in which there is a large accumulation of water, chiefly from the surface. This has been attempted to reduce by means of a whim and bucket, worked, by a horse. Such attempt is next to useless; it requires continuous application to reduce the quantity properly, and instructions have now been issued to do this by employing 3 shifts of horses and drivers to lift the water, and thus render further prosecution of drives safe. -
