There are in the Advertiser today various extracts from the Select Committee's report on the Tairua Gbldfield, which, with a few lines of remark, do duty for a leader. The Advertiser is fond of clippings. They are easier, certainly, than original matter, and " more filling at the price." We are glad, however, that the ' Advertiser on tbis occasion has had the decency to acknowledge the source whence their information is derived, viz., ".an Auckland contemporary" (the same report appeared in the columns of the Star), for it is not always that the Advertiser follows this course of common honesty, simple though it be. The Ohinemuri Miners' Rights Committee's Beport is an instance in point, in which the Advertiser took the report bodily from these columns and then published it under the heading, of telegrams received " Per Press Agency." If the Advertiser is hard up for news, and has not the enterprise to obtain it for themselves, we do not mind their taking it from us if it, be done in an open and straightforward manner; but of this underhand system of " cribbing " other people's property without either " by your leave " or " thank you" being said, we can only say, as did the redoubtable Chicken in Dickens' " Dombey and Son," " Wy, it's mean," —and we add, detestable.
