CALEDONIAN.
The operations iv this mine are progressing, - and a satisfactory quantity of quartz accumulating from the several workings. On the Cure lode strippingthe reef is continued, but it is of a hard stubborn character, the quality not keep, ing pace with the size, four to fire feet of stone being shot down leaving quartz on the.hanging wall. The lode is devious in its course; for the last few feet slewing round to the eastward or foot-wall side. There is yet some 40 to 50 feet driving to put m before the limit of the Caledonian is reached; in which space the lode may travel through better country. .The rise from .No. 2 level is nearly sufficiently .high, and a short cross-cut to connect with the present working level: will be driven. This will afford facilities by one half the distance to convey stone to the shaft, and will be further lessened by another cross-cut from the shaft avoiding a long elbow in the lower level, and will be the means of thoroughly opening up the Caledonian corner allowing that company to work their portion, with economy and despatch.
