The Government achieved a victory last night over the San Francisco Mail Service, having carried their proposals by a good majority! It is apparent, however, that the Opposition have not abandoned their position unconditionally, and the result of last night's debate shows that at any moment they may break out again in open hostility. A correspondent, whose communication appears in to-day's issue, intimates that a want of confidence motion may be yet tabled ; but he suggests that it will be after the report of the Finance Committee has been pi'esented to the House. There is just a possibility that the Opposition may yet have the chance they have been watching for all the session to disorganise the ranks of the Government party, and such a result would no doubt conduce to favor the introduction of a no-confidence motion. But the majority supporting the Government last night may be accepted as a good evidence that, under ordinary circumstances, they will be able to steer clear of an absolute defeat this session; and they will best consult this object by bringing the session to a speedy close, if the Opposition will permit it.
