PORTER'S COMPENSATION.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sin,—People who know all about this case are certain it is public robbery. At Ohinemuri the only lawsuit Adam Porter was in, was that of Catran versus Porter. There was no question at all in the case of any of the famous " Miners' Eights," as the Ca.trans-had none of them, and knew nothing about them, therefore they did not affect Porter and party one bit. Indeed if he gets compensation Catran and others are much more entitled to it, as they were guilty of no "kafflin" or shuffling in the affair. Those who know what claim Porter and Co. had think tha4 he must have made some extraordinary statements to the committee to blindfold them, as no doubt was the case. They are also anxious, and insist that all his evx. denco should be published, and also the evidence given by any other person in tho case. U. M.
