LABCENY OF A BLANKET.
I William; Bankhead was charged with stealing from the dwelling house of Joseph * .Senior, one single blanket of the yalu« 'of'SsZ-flteVproperiy^of^Offepn^SenioriV-.T^' j The accused pleaded guilty. - .' Sergeant Elloitt said prisoner had gone to Mrs Senior's and secured a supper and bed, saying he I was going away early mv the morning. While breakfast was being cooked accused went out, and soon after, the blanket was missed. Prisoner was arrested and he. admitted stealing the blanket, saying tnat hie had disposed «f it to Mr Clark, Tararu Boaa; Me (Sergeant Elliott) went to Mr Clark's and found that prisoner's statement was correct, as he had gone to Mr Clark and said he wanted to leave the Thames; but hadn't any money; that the.blanket was the only property he had, and he would* sell it for five shillings to pay his passage up. On that representation Mr rClark purchased the blanket. 1 he accused said he had nothing to say except that he had no work, and had a* bad leg and he was tempted to do it. His Worship said it was a strange way of getting on. Prisoner had not long been out of gaol for a similar offence. If this were the first offence he (His Wor-^ ship) might be disposed to take a lenient view of it. Last time prisoner had been before him he said he was a new arrival from Scotland. His career was not /very promising with two convictions in such* a time. He really did not know what to do with prisoner. Prisoner said if he had another chance he would never offend again. His Worship said under the circum? stances he would inflict a sentence similar, to the one before —3 months' imprison* ment with hard labor.
BMAT GOAT. Peter Arno pleaded guilty to allowing one goat to wander in the street. He said he was on .night shift and his little girl left the gate open. His Worship said as the goat season was coming on, and people. wero getting: their gardens in nice order, he must warn owners of goats that he would hare to commence and double the fine. In this case the fine would be 2s and costs. The Court adjourned.
