Thursday.

This afternoon Mr Waterbouse moved the following resolution, in a long speech, in which he commented with severity upon the proceedings of the Government in their dealings with regard to native lands:—"That in. the opinion of this Council, the acknowledgment by the Government in the purchase of native lands, of "rights," or leases, acquired by Europeans from native owners in violation of the laws of the colony, is opposed to all sound principles of public policy." Dr .Pollen replied in defence of the action of the Government, and the motion was carried on the voices.
