CALEDONIAN.
Driving on the footwall of the Cure lode continues (from where the quartz was stripped), and is now in some 18 feet in tight country, rendering the progress slow ; it is intended to extend thia drive fully to 40 feet before taking down the quartz. The quartz milled from the Ist section, equal to 35 tons, has all been crushed, but the tailings from the specimens have yet to be treated in the herdans, and as this process has hitherto b«en the principal gold saver, the present qutetw; tity of amalgam will be much increaseoV 350 ounces of amalgam were to hand tins morning. Tuesday next will probably complete the lot, and retorting take place. The rise is making satisfactory progress from No 1 level, and the show of quartz from the footwall lode as well as from the Young American reef has improved considerably.
