INVERNESS.

Schofield and party working the middle section of this mine, and at present operating upon leaders from the 40-fret level, have commenced crushing a parcel of about 45 tons, which probably will be as good as former crushings; this parcel would have been delivered at the mill sooner, but the wretched state of the tramway rendered it impracticable, and it has only been got down by the tributers repairing the line themselves. There are also portions on the east side of the mine held by tributers Catran and Co , who are working near the surface ; and the lower portion, worked from the Kuranui tunnel by Laphan and Co., these, tributes are all paying high prices, and judging from the returns should place considerable monies to the credit of the Company. Upwards of £400 has been paid in as per centage by Schofield's party alone since January last. The leaders are comparatively small, and require much driving and care in taking down, but the quality as a rule repays the extra trouble tributers take in extracting the lodes. . ;
