CURE.

Operations in this mine are carried on with vigour. The cross-cut from the Caledonian shaft for their new back is making fair progress in good country, 30 feet being accomplished. The winze on No. o lode is going down on good stone, showing the reef to bp making in size as it deepens. It is some 10 feet down and preparations are now making for the more efficient working the same. The drive or cross-lode towards the Red Queen continues to maintain its size and character, showing gold occasionally; how much further this may extend needs the surveyor to take necessary bearings to decide the angle at which it will prove to be at the limit. Stpping on this. Jod.e ]}a.s tapvpd the fact that a very small leader may prove large and valuable, as the quartz has increased from 2 inches to as many feet, and ev^ery day lately brings to view golden ore. The same may be said of No. 4 or the black lode, which at present is good in the §topes. The main body of crushing stuff is derived however i^om No 4; this has also more gold showing in it than for some time back, and the show at Tararu battery justifies the appearance at the mine.
