RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before J. Kilgour and E. W. Puckey, Esqs., J.P's.) BBEACH OF BTK-lAW. Henry Smith was charged with a breach of the Borough Bye-laws by working a horse that waa unfit for work by means of an unhealed sore. Defendant pleaded guilty, and made an explanation in extenuation. Mr Bullen said he had abundant evidence to prove that .the horse was entirely unfit to be ridden or used. Defendant had been remonstrated with, and he got off promising not to ride the horse again, but as soon as he got out of sight he again put the saddle on him and rode again. Some of the packers up the Kauaeranga were so illtreating their
horses that he would ask the Bench to inflict a substantial fine in this case as an example. Pined 40s and costs. STBAY HOBSE. ' John Babe was charged with-allowing a horse to wander at large. Ho pleaded guilty and wag fined 2s 6d and costs. - Court adjourned.
