Cbeam Sattce.—lnto a pint of plain melted butter made with very little flour: stir rather less than a gill of cream, beaten up with the strained yolk of ah egg. Anchovy Saxtce—Wash aad ifemove the bone from a doxen anchovies. Pound them in a mortar with an ounce of butter, until a perfectly smooth paste is obtained, pass this through a fine hair sieve, and then stir it into half a pint of plain melted butter* ■'"./■■-'^ :- -•■ ■--:-/ ■■- - " f" :---:' . AppiiE Sauck.—Peel^ core, and cut, into small pieces half a dozen cooking apples, put them into a small saucepan with four cloves and a little water. Let them stew till quite done, then pass them through a fine hair sieve; put the pulp in a saucepan with- a small pat of fresh butter, stir on the fire till quite hot, and , serve. Mildew. —To remove mildew, make a' 1 very weak, solution .of chloride of Ume in '• water (a good teaspoon ful to a quart of water), strain it carefully, and dip the ] spot on the garment into it; and if the < mildew does not disappear immediately, lay it in the sun for a few minutes, or dip' it again into the lime water. Blankets. —To cleanse blankets put two large teaspoonfuls of borax and a' pint bowl of soft soap into a tub_of cold water; when these are dissolved, put in the blankets, and let them remain over night. Next day rub out, and rinse thoroughly in two waters, and hang them to dry. Do. not wring them. To B.EMOVE Stains fbom Hands.—lf you have been pickling or handling acid fruit and have stained your hands, twash them in clear water, wipe them lightly, and, while they are yet moist Strike a match and shut your hands around it so as to catch the smoke, and the stain will disappear. A- Watebpeoof Papeb, transparent, and'imperviou3 to grease, is obtained'by soaking good paper in an aqueous solution ' of shellac and borax. -It resembles parch* ■ ment paper in some respects. If the aqueous solution be colored with aniline colors, very handsome paper, of use for artificial flowers, may be prepared.
