This day. A public meeting was held, at Leithfield last night. Mr Maskell, Provincial Secretary, who represents the district in the .Provincial Council, moved a resolution adverse to the Abolition Bill, and asking for delay until after the General Election; but an amendment in favor of immediate Abolition was carried by 49 to 37.

About fifteen thousand troufc ova have been obtained for artificial hatching, but a large quantity have been destroyed by the failure of a new experiment. Nearly two thousand are already hatched out, and the curator is expecting more < ova yet.. ' ■■ •
