PARA WAI CRICKET GROUND.

The cricket ground at Parawai which Mr Spencer has placed at the disposal, of the Thames cricketers progresses favorably and encourages the hope that cricket will again flourish at the Thames during the coming summer. Fresh, pieces of turf have been put in "where required on a space in the middle 35 yards by 25, this has also been well beaten, guano put on, and sown with fine lawn grass seed, the whole being covered with loose mould. Horse manure has been spread over the oufcfielding, and Mr Hewitt has undertaken to procure a grass-cutting-machine from Auckland.. When the young grass has grown sufficiently, more beating and rolling will be required, and then a fair wicket may reasonably be expected. This ground, by reason of its distance from town, will only be available onJSaturday afternoons and general holidays, so at a meeting of the committee appointed to carry out these improvements it was determined to attempt to do something to put in order the piece of ground off Sealey street for the benefit of those who are unable to go to Paratrai, and yet like an hour's cricket in the morning or evening. With this view it ! was determined to write to Dr Ktlgour and Mr Heron to ask them to allow play on the ground there, and abo to thp ' Borough Council to cut a drain to Sealey street. This last will only be required to be about one foot in depth, and if the owners grant their ground for the use of-cricketers, we should not be surprised if the Mayor and Council will be induced to cut the drain s the cost would not be much and the boon to many very great. The Committee, we are informed, are anxious to have all subscriptions and subscription lists paid into the treasurer, Mr F. W. Paul, as soon as possible, to enable them to take action in the matter.
