Accident oil the Karaka Tramway.

Abad accident occurred this morning to a little girl named Emily Williams, aged apparently about eight years, on the Karaka tramway. From what we have been able to glean of the facts it seems that a man named Gurney, a trucksman employed on the Queen of Beauty claim, was returning about his usual dinner time with some empty trucks, when a little girl, whom he Cad not not;ced"before, got her'leg in between the trucks. Gurney instantly applied the break to the trucks and jumped off to extricate the girl, but too late as the truck wheels had jammed the child's leg against the rails of the tramway, inflicting severe wounds all along the fleshy part of the leg from the "ancle nearly to the knee. The little girl was immediately conveyed by Guraey and Mr Fleming to the Hospital, where Drs. Fox and Perston were in attendance and dressed the wounds or rather wound—the whole of the flesh of the calf beifjg jammed up into one large one. Fortunately it sras not found aeces-

sary to amputate the leg. G-urney assures us, that though on the truck himself at the time of the accident, he has not the most remote conception of how the child chanced to get between the (rucks, neither did he see her at all before the accident occurred.
