AUCKLAND.
This day,, * At the 'Partiell electors' meeting, re Abolition,^ there were six hundred present. The first.resolution movedwas in favor of the Government Bills, and lapsed, for want of a seconder. The second resolution— " That this meeting views with alarm the proposition to abolish Provinces without an appeal to the country by means of a general election, and protests against the proposed Abolition of Provinces Bill being passed by the Assembly whose term of office is just expiring," was received with enthusiastic cheering. A telegram read from Mr Eeader Wood, declaring his intention to contest Parnell against all comers was followed by prolonged applause. Mr. Dargaville moved a resolution supporting the general principle of Government measures. He declared his intention to content Parnell with Mr Wood. The announcement was followed by Unfavorable demonstrations. Mr Lusk made a very able speech against the Government measures. Other speakers referred to Sir George Grey's exertions and the necessity for giving him cordial support —all references being received with loud cheering. Only about a dozen hauds wero held up for
Mr Dargaville's amendment, and the original resolution was put and carried amid gcueral applause. A vote of confidence in Mr Wood was passed with three cheers.
