' . This,day. Mr Stout, M.P.C. for Caversham, addressed his constituents last evening, speaking chiefly on the Abolition question. He strongly opposed the abolition of the Middle Island provinces, mainly on, the grounds of objection to a nominee Government; and because it inrolved .putting the land fund into the common purse of the Colony. The following resolution was passed unanimously— " That this meeting disapproves of the Abolition ,of Provinces Bill as being a measure- npt in the : interests of the people or called for by them." The Chairman was requested to forward it to His Honor the Superintendent in Wellington. A vote of confidence in Mr Stout was passed nem con.
