We wotfd direct attention to the public meeting at the Academy of Music this evening to consider a petition for incased; representation ibr ijthe Thames in the Assembly. 'A wretched hotch-potch of a petition has been circulated by some persons, setting forth a number of grievances—real or imaginary, but certainly indreprivate than public—Md an attempt is, we hear, to be made to get this petition adopted by a side wind to night. If the attempt should be made —and ' we believe the concocter or concocters have face enough for. anything —we trust the Council and other representatives of local bodies and the meeting, generally, will have nothing to do with it. If the matter is gone about properly a strong representation can be made to the Government, but to adopt a petition like that referred to as already in circulation wpjildi be to invite the contempt of the 'members' of Assembly, and be more injurious than a studied indifference to their interests on; the part of the inhabitants.
