Dueing evening service at St George's Church-yesterday the force of the gale was severely felt, and at times of the strongest squalls,-it seemed a3 if the roof would be forced in. The gaseliera were made to oscillate to an extent which showed that the building was: ',' wisibly". affected,;and at times the noise was, so great that theminißter's; voice was, scarcely audible.; When the wind lulled \ a bit-it brought no lull inthe church, for: the timbers gave out ominous cracks, whiclnseemed to alarmysome persons of; sensitive nerves; and the cracks were certainly, suggestive of something giving: way. There wa3 not, of course, any: danger of such a catastrophe, but several times' the '.cracking made persons in the congregation take sudden starts, and glances upward to see where the structure was going to give way first. After the service was over, and just;as people were going, home, a pelting rain commenced to fall. Umbrellas suddenly turned inside out, and some persons began to. wish they had itayed at home. The night, was besides very dark, which, was a further ; source of discomfort.
