BLOCK 5 A. '• Mr Carpenter waited upon the Superintendent with the view of effecting an arrangement' as to proceedings to be taken with, reference to .claims of those who took up residence sites on this block, in the early.days of the field. . It would appear that a letter had been, sent to Capt. Fraser in March-last,-authorising him to inquire in the matter; but owinij to the large pressure of business, and the claim upon his time consequent upon the opening of the Ohinemuri and Tairua goldfields, he has not been able to attend to it. He explained this to His Honor,, and it was finally determined that an inquiry should be held tit as early a date as possible; the nature of compensation to be awarded to those who successfully
establish their claims being left for future consideration. It is gratifying to see that there is a chance of this vexed question being finally settled, and Sir Georgfe Grey is determined that as little time as possible shall be lost. There is no donbt this grievance will soon be a thing of the past. ' ■'',<">..:: >
