THE BOY MORROW.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sib, —lteferringtotheletterof "Old Absconder," in yesterday's issue of the Star, I should be inclined to think on reading the first~part that it was the verdict of the K.M. to which he objected; but in the latter it appears that he wishes to draw the attention of the proper authorities to the manner in which the Industrial School is conducted. My object in trespassing upon your space, sir, is to combat any hit at Captain Fraser on account of the verdict-given by him4n.-the case 'of-the boy Morrow. I happened to be in Court op the very day on which the youngster was brought up, and without saying anything as- Hoi fthe 1 -kindly * and generosity characteristic of our worthy but impulsive magistrate on all occasions, ,lj will remark that on the day in question his treatment of the-boy before committing him was very kind. He had the little rebel brought up.jto his side on the Bench, and. endeavored to elicit" some sort of explanation of his wild conduct, but to no purpose, the youngster remaining dogged. As to the advisability of whipping in connection with our public gaols,
"An Old Absconder" may be right or wrong, but upon that point he should direct his attention to the Legislature, iuaamuch as such punishment is provided for in the Act whicn every Ecsident Magistrate has for his guidance. ",,-,: j Human Natube.
