'is likely -to improve him? Is there no other plan of.punishment ? I feel indignant when thinking that a system" so degrading should be introduced in this country. I will wager that the boy will become more hardened. Often these runaway cases are caused by the tyrannical conduct of the masters. My reason for writing this is with the idea of drawing the attention of tho proper authorities to keep their eyes on the masters of theseschools ; for it is well knowa that the most brutal treatment towards children has often occumH. - ■ , An Old Abscondeb, .
