Accident. — The following singular case of alarm and, consequent accident is reported in the South Australian Advertiser .—On Friday night, April; 9, a sad accident occurred at Miss Baker's residence, Salt Creek, which in ay end fatally. For some months Miss Baker had been annoyed by men visiting her premises at night, as well as from time to time by receiving anonymous and threatening letters. ■ It haa become so serious that persons übout the neighborhood, out of kindness, have gone in turns to watch the grounds after dark, so as to keep off these nightly visitors, and at the same time to endeavor if possible to catch them, so as to hand them over to jnstico and have them punished. It appears that on Friday night Mr Boyd, of Flaxman's Valley, Lad riden over to Miss Baker's for the purpose of keeping, -watch, and after his arrival some men 'wero prowling about the premises. Boyd had been round the house and garden two or three times with his gun under his arm, and in order to frighten them away, he fired off the gnn loaded with a full charge of shot and slug, and by doing.so shot accidentally a man named William Carnell inthe right shoulder, arm, and chest. Thia poor fellow, Carnell, happened to be one that was coming to the house, as he had often done before, to watch the premises for Miss Baker, but arrived about an hour earlier than usual, and came by a different route to the house, and was not seen by Boyd or expected at the time.
