HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT.

To the Editor of the Evening Stab. Sib, —The Hospital Committee seema to be composed of rather queer-elements; certain members have veiy peculiar notions with regard to the management of that institution. Here is an example:— '• -" -.%— Mr Sims (whom, I am happy to say, I don't know) proposed that the highest -Render for supplying groceries 'should be accepted on account of- the tenderer being ,a ♦* conscientious man," and would supply everything."of the- best quality." This I i presume -to mean that the other fire ten['derers were not so. How does Mr Sims I'know? Has he tried uJrinf his scales and found ua^auMnjff If tkat wore done by, the proper authority possibljrMr Simple"ton Vjudgment might be reversed. , J.cao see no reason to the contrary ,why each*of us is not as' conscientious as his protege. I have no faith in a person who talks much about his conscience, for as a rule I think it may safely be assumed tbat he hadn't-got any. For, myself, I will only say this, that I did not speak to a single member of the Committee to interest himself in my behalf; and would -scorn to do fo. As a subscriber I most ; decidedly object to misappropriating the funds in such a manner., The Committee should accept the lowest tender, and then compel the contractor to supply goods of the best quality, and not leave it to his* conscience at all.

; Hqw any person of common sense —and, . let me,. add,, common, honesty—could-be" found to support such a' motion is incredible. , I hope that at the next annual election of members the subscribers will purge the Committee of all such [ j who , hare bsen pitchforked into a position for which Providence nerer intended them,, and whose proper sphere should be where tliey could circulate their notions and ideas in underground obscurity.—l am &c. v ■ ■_ > • One of the Tendebebs.
