The improvement in the quality of the reef at the bottom level continues, and a parcel of picked stone has been accumulated. Until quite recently the manager discarded the bulk of the reef, which is of considerable size, but the improvement in the quality having now extended through the greater body of the reef, the whole;,of the.:,stone taken out, is-Jjeing placed in the paddqck> and a crushiiigv will take place very shortly; in fact the manager came into town yesterday* ex-; pressly to secHre mill'power." No. 2f"ee| bjas given some trouble to the company', having been driven on.a long distance in the low level, and the reef being so large made the work more laborious, r but it now shows signs of giving'some return; 1 and it; is very much to be hoped r thafc the present favtrable indications wilfnot disappear as tho reef is followed up." From its appearance, however, and tho character of the country it inhabits, the latter mentioned probability would seem to be rather remote. »
