The Races—Fatal Accident.
The races were pretty well attended-^----over 1000 people present. A manjnairied John Cobin was thrown from his horse going to the course and killed, his .skull being fractured. The following; events came off:—' ? ;; ■ ' :

A Gazette published to-day notifies Mr Sheehan's resignation and Mr Wood's appointment to the Provincial Secretaryship. \ A boat with three gentlemen capsized on lake Rotorua. Mr Gilfillan of Wanganui was drowned;"the other two clung to the bottom. A Maori woman then swam off,and got them ashore. In the District Court Mr Beckham refused a new trial in the case against John Wallace for driving over a woman.
