This day.
Provincial Council.
In the Provincial Council yesterday, in reply to Mr Carpenter, Mr Wood-said that practically the roads being constructed were in Mr Mackay's charge (sic), and that the Provincial Council had voted £1800 on account of them.
On the motion of Mr Carpenter, it was decided that an "extension of time ought to be allowed to holders of volunteer land scrip for two years. Mr Eees carried a motion relative to throwing open for public occupation land locked up by selections under the Auckland "Waste Lands Act, 1858.
The report of the Committee on the subject of the advance to the Pumping Association was adopted.; The report contained the following recommendations :-— 1. That transactions;relative to the said advance have hitherto been conducted in a very loose and irregular manner, and that means be taken to place future operations on a sound and satisfactory basis. 2. That in view ,of : the ■magnitude 6f the operations and their being so closely identified with the prosperity of the province as a whole, it is desirable that the utmost assistance, consiitent with conservation of the interests of the province, should be given to enable the -Association to prosecute the work. 3. That the Superintendent and Executive Council should give the subject their most seriousrfout favorable - consideration, and .that the; requisite steps bo taken to secure repayment of the principal. and interest on the moneys advanced to the Association, and for, which the province makes itself liable. '! .
The Council adjourned till 2.30 to-day. The prorogation will probably take place during this sitting..
