Provincial Council.

In the Provincial Council last night various motions were agreed to, including the following:—

Mr Goldie, for a return relative to tim her cut by Mr Lundon at Hokianga.

Mr Ilamlin, for an address affirming the desirability of a steamer calling occasionally at the Pollock settlement. Sir 11.. Douglas, for an expenditure of £600 on the wharf at Whangarei Heads, and carrying out of the recommendation of the late Superintendent as to^the road between Maungakaramea and Wangarei. Mr Johnson, for £100 for the benevolent society at Gisborne. Mr Dargaville, for an extension of the telegraph to Northern Wairoa.

Mr Lundon, for the appointment of a constable at Hokianga. . Captain Peacock, for a grant to tlio several Highway Boards to maintain the main road between the Harp of Erin and Lower Wairoa. ;

Mr Lusk, for £ICD for improving the road between Waiapu and Mangapai. A discussion took place on a motion^ by™ Mr Roche, with reference to the purchase by private individuals of native lands. Ultimately,*an amendment to the following effect was agreed to—"Thatin the opinion of this Council it is against the interests of the Province that the General Government should permit private individuals to make—to the exclusion of others—direct purchases of Native Lands proclaimed under the Public Works Act of 1870."-
