Wednesday.

The report that I sent respecting the discovery of the big reef being ? a continuation of the Prospectors' reef is confirmed, it. being a little over three miles south. Since I wrote on Monday fresh discoveries in the same district have taken place. Some six different claims and leases have been marked out. The miners whom I am well acquainted with are sanguine as to the future prospects. Its about four miles from the Puriri on the right hand track, formerly a gum track.

Mr McLaren, engineer, lost his road from the Kauaeranga, and was bushed all night in the rain. The road party consists of twelve men, and the road is half a chain wide and gives general satisfaction; but I think more men should be employed, so as to take advantage of the weather—that i.<», if the traffic is to be kept up from Shortland and Grahamstown..

Puriri is going ahead, what with road making and the traflic. A requisition is manufacturing, for, a post, office, but it is to be hoped before the pbst office is °fiven to any one that the postmaster will make it a part of his duty to pay a visit to the district. ;

We have sluicing being carried on. Blair and party are working, and seem to be confident of success. •

The party at the old Dawn of Hope are busy, and expect to send down a trial crushing next week, which they are confident will shape well, as it is from a leader that went two to three ounces to the ton.
