THEATRE ROYAL.

MrDarrell's five act drama*," Under , the Ban," was placed upin the stage last night, there being a very good audience. The plot is somewhat complicated, and drawn out, yet there are many features in the play to recommend it, and the . audience last night were certainly not backward in giving.practical manifestations of approval during its progress. There are several very good characters, that of Alice'Fieldirig (by. Mrs Darrell) being the most prominent,; that of Hubert Devore (personated by Mr Barrel) also affords'scope for effective acting. Humor is largely infustd into the play, occasion being thus offered for a display, of the comic powers of Messrs. Oily Deering and Sam Poole ; and Miss Patty Holt, who enacted the role of a maid rejoicing in . the sobriquet of Polly Fickle.w*s also highly amusing.. Mr DeerinfV "get up "as a butler was, par excellence, wonderful, and 'caused great Bnrasement before that gentleman opened his lips. Miss Stephenson played prettily and well in the pharacter of a young girl stoitten 1 "with jealousy, and Mr' Aveling , also . | sustained the character of a gentleman (in .the same unhappy condition)'-with credit! Mr. Hollo way .played the part, of an old gentleman,. Sir James Taniittarf, ! very well. Mrs Jones invariably pleases, , and succeeded as well as usual last evening, in the character of a devoted old ier- - rant, who sacrifices her life to tare her mistress, who is accused of murdering her , husband. As a whole the drama wasjrell received, bixt we have not .space to notKjflUn it further, or to go into particulars of ](he plot.. To-night "Jane Shore" wffl|Ke <" produced. V...'_ '' liK\.
