THEATRE BOYAL.

"Othello" was witnessed by a large audience at the Theatre Koyal last night, and" went very smoothly;" considering the nature of the piece.;; In " Othello " tke greater part of this characters require careful study and no little ability: Mr Darrell's was a good representation of the hero Moor, in the latter and more interesting acts, especially; and Mrs. Darreli's Emilia, could scarcely be excelled. Miss Stephensbri'also did great credit to the, character. of Desdemona, and received well-merited applause for the enactment thereof. KThevpartvof lago was placed in the hands-of Mr Aveling, who fast gains the appreciation of the public; and. though the part is a great tax upon so short a notice, Mr Aveling succeeded better than could have been expected. ; Mr Holloway impersonated Cassio, Mr Oily Deering, .Brabantio,^and both played carefully and well. To-night the public will :be , presented with a piece, which, to many, is entirely new, namely, "The Woman in Red," and numbers will very likely be prompted to attend from;curiosity. We may state, however, as an inducement which should be recognised heartily, that the performance,is for the benefit of Mrs George Darrell, a favorite «f many years standing^ and one, whose merits as fin actress of surpassing talent, must be ac- j knbwledged wherever she makes an appearance. We fully anticipate that a bumper house will greet the fair beneficiare.
