AUCKLAND.
This day. j Fire in Auckland. A fire in Chapel-street is now burning; It has destroyed A»her's buildings, occu-; pied by Mr* Craw and Mr Lawrence;; the latter keeping a boarding house—a large two-storey block. There was no wafer, and the efforts of "the fire brigade were futile in extinguishing the flames, but by throwing water and pulling down outhouses the adjoining buildings were! saved. The fire is now dying out. It 1 originated apparently on the shingles outside, and burned very fiercely. The fur-j niture is mostly saved. The block is! valued at about £800. An attempt to, set it on fire was discovered some months; ago and put out. ,"'........ A ship and barque are signalled. Ship supposed to be the Ca^er Ou from London. Later. The insurance on the fire at. Asher's buildings, a total loss, is—Norwich Union £400; Lawrence, furniture, mostly saved, £250, also in Norwich Union.
