Arrived : The Fernglen, ship, after a protracted passage out of 116 days. The voyage was uneventful. She has lost her jibboom in a gale. There were six deaths of infants. She brings 154 statute adults, 26 being single women and 43 men ; all well. ; .
Dr Fox, an old Thames resident, arrived in medical charge of the ship Fernglen. Grattan McCabe fell over a cliff at the Solid Eock Bath and was killed.
At the Bank of New Zealand half-' yearly meeting the report showed the riett profits to be £48,058. Balance from last year £13,916. A dividend was declared of ten per cent and a bonus' of ss. Balance carried forwarded £16,974. The report was adopted. Tho Chairman, in moving it, referred in terms of condemnation to the system introduced of paying large interest on deposits, and said it was calculated to divert money from its legitimate channels, and was injurious to the Colony, and a pinch would come which, he desired merchants to bear in mind, was not brought about by that bank.
