WAIOTAHI EDUCATION COMMITTEE.

A meeting of. the members was held last evening in the office of the secretary, Mr Skene. Present: Mr Eowe (Chairman), Mr Brodie and Mr O'Haire.

A number of applications for the office of teacher to the Waiotahi School had been received, and that of Mr, Moore, of Waiuku, selected. Mr Skene stated that he had telegraphed to that gentleman on Saturday. The appointment of Mr Moore wag confirmed.

■> Regarding the test examination of scholars, the Secretary stated that he had received a communication from the Central Board to the effect that a further postponement of the examination on account of the prevailing epidemic could not be considered. The, Committee decided to take no steps in the matter on hearing this, as it considered that the school would be placed at a great disadvantage with others, nearly 75 pe;* cent, of the children being' absent' with measles or otherdiseases.

A letter from the Central Board was read, in which it was stated that the Board had no funds to devote to incidental expenses, such as for sanitary provisions, brooms, &c, &c, and that a local fund should be raised for that purpose. Th« Committee unanimously declined to entertain any such proposition, and considered it manifestly unjust that they (who gave their time and trouble for nothing) should be asked to support such a fund out of their own pockets. The Secretary was instructed to communicate with the Central Board, notifying the resolution arrived at by the Committee. The above was merely the most pressing business, There wore a number of

other matters to go into, but the members desiring to be present at the public meeting re tbe Tairuagoldh'eld, other business was deferred.

The meeting then adjourned
