THfS DAY. (Before H. Goldsmith and E. W. Puckey, . Esqs., J's.P.) THBOWING STONES. Jokn C. Steer-pas charged with that he did unlawfully throw a missile to the danger of John Joseph Brien. Defendant (who was a very small boy) said he did not throw the stone. Mr Bullen stated the circumstances of the case, in brief, and called-— John Joseph Brien, who, having been sworn, deposed—-I am proprietor of a licensed carriage trading in the Borough of Thames. On Monday last I was engaged conveying passengers between Grrahamstown and Short land. At about 11 or 12 o'clock passed a number of youngsters about the Scotch Church. The boys cried out " Hurrah for Davies!" and one of them (the defendant) threw a stone and brcke the glass or my carriage I sung out to witness " I shall know you again." The damage done would amount to 78. I went to the School and picked defendant out from among & dozen boys.. The boy's father stated that the boy never heard Brien sing out, or say a word about the broken glass. He had no witnesses present, but a number of boys who were present at the time would swear that the boy did not throw the stone. The Bench inflicted a penalty of ss, and costs, 163. - The Court adjourned.
