MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION.
At the usual fortnightly meeting of the Board of Education the following business, having reference to school districts on the Thames, was transacted, as reported by the Auckland papers :— Kattaebanga.--The Board sanctioned the appointment of the Bey Mr Mark, vice the Bey. Mr Browne, resigned, and approved of Mr Field as assistant teacher, vice Mr Gribble, resigned.—The Board had no objection to the appropriation ot half the lees from the Superior School, as an increase of salary to the assistant teacher.—An increase of pay to certain pupil teachers was applied for. Payment was authorized at the rates recommended by the Examiners' Committee. Xafaebanga. —A letter was read asking if the Board would allow the £250 set apart for the purchase of Mr Kdwards' property as a school to be appropriated to any other site if one more suitable could be found.—Agrerd, if the Committee could arrange with Mr Edwards, and if the Board approved of the new site. r Examination at the Thamhs.—The report of the Examiners' Committee on the examination recently held at the Thames was adopted. Katjaeb*nga.—Asking ficnv additional payment for teaching sewing. — The. Board declined to sanction any larger allowance for this purpose. Pabawai — Letter read, sugge'ting that Maori pupils taught by the master be included in the average. —Declined, as the r*> ative Minister made an allowance for the purpose. The following with regard to the finances of the Board will be found interesting:— Finance. —The following letter from the Provincial Secretary was read:— "Superintendent's Office, Auckland, 3rd April, 1875. Sir,—Adverting to the interview held with a deputation from y«ur Board this day, I am directed by H I Honor the Superintendent to inform you that the Provincial Treasurer has made arrangements with Jthe Bank for a further overdraft of eighteen hundred pounds (£1,800) on the Public School A ccountr to enable this month?s--payments to be made. I am further directed to state, that, considering: the present financial position of the. Board, the greatest i possible caution should be exercised by them in incurring further liabilities, and every effort made to reduce rather than increase expenditure. —I am, 4c, Vincent E. .Rice, for the Provincial Secretary." ___^_
