WAIKATO RAILWAY TENDER.
We learn that the tender of Messrs Price Brothers j for : fifty sets of spoints and crossings for* the Waikato Railway, has been accepted by the Government, and that firm has already started to work. The process of cutting the massive rails is very interesting, and the ease with which it is accomplished somewhat remarkable. The \ rails are placed across the furnace, and heated at the point T^here it is desired to -cut them. When red hot ihe familiar spirits of the foundry take them one by one from the- furnace, and lay them on the feeding bed of a circular saw, which is driven with great sp<»ed. The bed is then carriei in towards the saw, which roars horribly for a brief space, and the rail is cut through, in as little time as it would take to treat a log of firewood in the same manner.
