THE EXCHANGE.

There is such a vast extent of work to do in the Exchange ground that the Company, though averse to the tribute system, are compelled, from sheer want of capital, to call in other aid to open up the mine, and tenders have, therefore, been invited to take up two contracts, for working JSos. 1 and 2 blocks respectively. In these blocks there is a considerable area of good working ground, and. the reefs are uncovered end ready to be taken .out. While operations are proceeding in this direction, the Company will be prosecuting the work now commenced, which is hoped to culminate in the confirmation of the idea that the lode at present being driven on is the main lode running through the City of JJondon ground and junctioning with the Queen of Beauty. A ll that portion of the .Exchange ground abutting on the City is totally unpmspected, and it is hoped now to cut the whole system of reefs leading from the adjoining claim. There will be a good deal of dead work to do before this is accomplished; and therefore the Company could not have taken a more judicious step than to let the other portions of the mine on. tribute. Nos. 1 and 2 blocks adjoin the Crown Princess. It was in these blocks the company were working when the stuff

was hauled through the late Crown Prince shaft.
