OHINEMURI.
Mackaytown, April 6. About 20 miners started for the Waitekauri this morning on account of the good news from there. As soon as the track is finished, the Waitekauri will be well prospected, but at present it is almost inaccessible. There is a large number of mea now on the road, and it should be finished soon.
A carter was stuck up by some foot-pad last night between Paeroa and Puke. There were two carters coming leisurely along, one about a hundred yards in ad • vance of the other. The leading man, after passing the second bridge, was suddenly attacked by a man, who jumped into the dray, struck the carter* several times and tore off his shirt. The carter hit out with his whip, and his assailant rolled out of the dray, apparently •tunned. He then called to the carter behind on the read, but instead of trying to secure the sticker-up they made their way to the Puke and reported the circumstance. A party was then organised to go in search of the would-be highwayman. On arriving at the scene of the alleged assault a man was seen, wJio, on a pistol being snapped at him, made a bolt into the ti-tree scrub and was not seen again.
The case in the Warden's Court between Catran and party and Adam Porter and party comes on to-morrow, and it is looked forward to with great interest, as the decision must hinge a great deal on the point who was tirst on the ground with miners' rights, Adam Porter or Jam Young. All the legal talent available are engaged in the case, which will probably last two or three days.
