REPLY TO ME HILTON.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib, —The assertion made by Mr Greo. P. Hilton, in this morning's Advertiser, is totally untrue. . We, the undersigned, did hear Mr Eennan promise to take all rubble stone from Mr Hart for the work, at 22s 6d per cubic yard. Now, the, value of rubble is 5s per cubic yard; and the value of cut stone 50s per cubic yard. Now, they used our cut stone, and left the greater portion of rubble on our hands ; but, instead of using our rubble, they carted stuff from the Bright Smile j tip, and out of the creek, and used it in the buildings with, our stone. Thereby, we were not able to get a correct measurement, and we, at the very least, consider we are done out of from £50 to £60. Now, as to a stamped agreement, we never saw, noi heard talk of such a thing. (Signed) Chakles Hast, S. Winter, : Geoege Sly, : Michael Collins.
,To Mr Kichard.Kennan. ; '. • M Srn,—l have sent to let you know that your Engineer is using my stone with your concrete Without acquainting me of it or without my consent; and will you oblige by letting me know how it is to be measured. I write to you because your Engineer will not giro me a civil answer Will you oblige by giving me an answer. —I am, <fee, C. Habt. , Grahamstown, Feb. 25th, 1875. [The above letters were in type on Saturday, but they were unavoidably crowded out.] ••-;■;.
